How we help
While we help in many ways, Cornerstone’s primary focus is to partner with churches, businesses and other non-profits across East Texas to assist clients who need Cornerstone’s assistance.
- All clients of Cornerstone are referred from one of our partner organizations. If they know someone who is ready to move ahead in their life they fill out our simple referral form and give it to the person needing help.
- The client will be asked to complete the next step, which is to schedule an appointment with Cornerstone.
- During our initial appointment, we discover the client’s most pressing need and work with the referring organization to meet that need. Some people need encouragement, others need financial assistance, while others may need guidance in a job hunt.
- Once their most pressing needs are met, we seek to meet their next greatest need. Therefore, Cornerstone engages in a more complex role of establishing a relationship with the client, often employing them in one of our programs where we invest in a personal relationship with the individual.
Our ultimate goal is to meet their deeper needs and set them on a path of life transformation.

Cornerstone Classes provides training for our clients in the soft skills necessary for landing and keeping a good job. Twice a month our clients gather in our training room with knowledgeable staff members to go through life skills, budgeting, and job training sessions.
Cornerstone hires, trains, and places people in jobs. We hire people to work in our store and in our building doing everything from sorting clothes to laying tile. We seek to identify their skill set and let them use their skills to do their best work. As they work, we have staff members who come alongside them and provide training. Additionally, East Texas Cornerstone Assistance Network helps the client find a new and better job, with increased income so they can meet their own needs for many years to come.
Cornerstone’s Christmas Store makes it possible for moms, dads, and grandparents to provide a Christmas for their children and grandchildren by making new toys available at one half of retail prices. This ministry empowers people in poverty to provide for themselves.
On a monthly basis, the Resale Store goes on the road to locations where affordable clothing and thrift stores are not readily available to families with limited transportation. These mobile sales offer hundreds of pieces of quality clothing for only $1 per item. This program empowers people all over Smith County to provide for themselves and their families.
In 2017 Cornerstone assembled over 19,000 sandwiches.
Each summer Cornerstone partners with the East Texas Food Bank and Meals on Wheels to provide thousands of sandwiches for hungry children all over Smith County.
